Abstract
The film genre studies, as they might investigate an extensive film body, needs a methodology that deals with the selection and analysis of the piece and its position in the canon. A method of choice is presented where a film and its remake are placed in three categories: adaptations, remaking and homages, to then study comparatively with the objective to find a common myth in said genre and to revindicate lesser works. Through a practical case focused on the melodramatic genre, a presence of illness and community as the main and shared themes, repeated continuously through history in different movements and filmographies. These results can then be proven or denied in the bigger corpus where the canon genre films are established.
