Abstract

This paper aims to analyze the how the vtuber industry, an online idol or streamer using virtual avatar controlled by a real person affect female actors, especially in terms of classic idea of commodification and alienation. The analysis is supported by participant observation of several female vtubers and a series of interview of vtuber audience. The result demonstrates vtubers industry as a new hybrid product of capitalism and modern technologies is affiliated with sexism presumption due to the nature of capitalisms aims appreciation and expansion. In addition, new technologies in the digital age becomes newer and more efficient means of exploitation of resources related to sex.
