Abstract

Background: Gallbladder volvulus is a rare emergency surgical condition that is usually misdiagnosed as acute cholecystitis and most of the time it is diagnosed intra-operatively Purpose: to report a rare case of GBV. ase report: a forty-six years old Ethiopian male patient presented to Yirgalem General Hospital and Medical College with right upper quadrant pain, nausea, and vomiting of two days duration. Conservative treatment was devised for acalculous acute cholecystitis. Nonetheless, on the seventh day of onset of symptoms conservative treatment failed and cholecystectomy was done for gangrenous GBV. The patient improved on the ninth post-operation day and was discharged. Conclusion: Although the typical patients for GBV are elderly females and thin kyphotic, it can occur at any age. Therefore, it should be considered in the differential diagnosis of all patients presented with clinical features of acute cholecystitis. Moreover, early urgent surgical interventions will decrease mortality and morbidity.
