Abstract

This research examines the agricultural obstacles faced by farmers in Suphanburi Province, Thailand, and explores stakeholders' perceptions of these challenges. The study employs a mixed methodology, consisting of two parts. Firstly, qualitative research is conducted to identify the current obstacles faced by farmers in Suphanburi. Data is collected from 30 farmers in Suphanburi using snowball sampling, interviews, and cause and effect analysis. Secondly, quantitative research is conducted using primary data obtained from the qualitative research, employing a revised questionnaire. Data is collected from 4,779 stakeholders in Suphanburi Province, Thailand, using purposive sampling.
The agricultural challenges identified in this study reflect the concept of economic inequality in Thailand, which cannot be easily resolved by the farmers themselves. The main obstacles faced by farmers include limited knowledge of cultivation practices, availability of high-quality plant sources, volatile agricultural prices, limited access to knowledge and information technology, and a lack of accounting fundamentals. Additionally, farmers often face difficulties in negotiating with middlemen and have limited career opportunities. Moreover, well-educated individuals tend to migrate to developed cities, further depleting the knowledge pool available to farmers. Farmers primarily acquire knowledge from their families, neighbors, fellow villagers, and government officials.
