Abstract

The metal ions in CoFe2O4 when fired in air are probably randomly distributed over the cation sites of the spinel structure. The parameters (u is the coordinate of the O ions and l is the fraction of the tetrahedral sites occupied by Fe ions) of CoFe2O4 samples are: for a firing temp. of 1350 Deg and quenched in air, a = 8.387 A., u = 0.375, l = 0.65; for a firing temp. of 1350 Deg and slowly cooled in air, a = 8.393 A., u = 0.375, l = 0.63. Essentially the same results were obtained for firing temps. of 1200 and 1400 Deg.
