Abstract

The "Dr. I. Cantacuzino" Institute in Bucharest is an emblem of Romanian medical science. No Romanian doctor or scientist has to be explicitly told the meaning of this place: a gathering area for anything microbiologyrelated, from bacteria to viruses and fungi. The laboratories satisfy several needs and reveal medical curiosities, including paraclinical diagnostics, fundamental and experimental medical research, widespread microbe collecting, antibiotic resistance studies, and vaccine manufacturing, to name a few.
