Abstract

We present a new method for studying the electronic states of crystals in a magnetic field which enables us to calculate the Landau level energies and wavefunctions microscopically. The method is applied to bulk GaAs and a GaAs-AlGaAs short-period superlattice. The results explicitly show the effects of non-parabolicity, anisotropy and state-mixings on both Landau level spectra and wavefunctions.
