Abstract

Summary While there are good reasons to assume that an adequate missile defence is still years away — war and the threat of war is hardly obsolescent. Rogue states continue to enhance their capabilities to deliver both conventional weapons and weapons of mass destruction by missiles with potential intercontinental intent. The logic of a Missile Defence System is examined in perspective of those for and against in the political arena, the overall UK Threat Perception and the military considerations for UK Strategic Forces and Expeditionary Forces. To counter threats missile defence being part of a comprehensive strategy including arms control, counter‐proliferation, diplomacy, deterrence and other defensive measures.
