Abstract
Larvae and pupae of 11 species of Chrysops , 3 species of Tabanus, 4 species of Hybomitra, and 1 species of Atylotus (Tabanidae: Diptera) were reared to the adult stage. All field-collected larvae were reared individually in plastic containers, and were fed maggots of the common house fly, Musca domestica L. Descriptions of the larvae and pupae are given for the first time for Chrysops aberrans Philip, C. pikei Whitney, Hybomitra metabola (McDunnough) and H. nuda (McDunnough). An original description of the pupa of C. aestuans abaestuans Philip is given, and a clarification is made for the larval and pupal stages of Tabanus similis Macquart. All new descriptions are supported by drawings of taxonomic characters. Larval and pupal keys are presented for the identification of all known immature stages of Nearctic species.
