Abstract

U.K. and U.S. researchers have identified a new ALS susceptibility gene that encodes an RNA-binding protein called FUS. The findings support the idea that the motor neuron disease could arise through a number of protein mishaps, making it unlikely that a single therapy would work for every case. But the relevance of FUS to the majority of ALS cases remains to be elucidated.
