Abstract
Pleiotropic behavioral effects of the courtship song mutation cacophony in Drosophila melanogaster are described. Analysis of activity, reactivity, and courtship behavior reveals a multitude of effects of the mutation on these behaviors. The results are discussed in relation to a hypothesis on the evolution of communication systems and in relation to the current understanding of Drosophila courtship behavior.
