Abstract
Modern diesel engines have lost their annoying vibrations and unpleasent noise. An important point in the list of targets when updating BMW’s four-cylinder diesel engine with direct injection was to further enhance the level of comfort and running smoothness. A balancer shaft unit was therefore developed in order to achieve these targets. Using this technology, BMW has succeeded in significantly reducing the noise and vibration levels inside the passenger compartment.
