Abstract

The paper is aimed at a more advanced solution of the limit-carrying capacity of an unstiffened horizontal vessel in the region of saddle supports. It should give a better picture of the real carrying capacity but, at the same time, provide a simpler and easier solution useful in design practice. It should help in applications of the ASME Code, Sections III and VIII, Division 2, and enable the designer to take into account the influences of cyclic load, fatigue and buckling. The new method of design solution is demonstrated briefly with some numerical examples.
