Abstract
World’s and Europe’s natural geodiversity is decreasing due to anthropogenic pressure. Thereby, the interest of tourists to the authentic geographical places with undisturbed nature and where the original culture prevails is growing. The Chorna Tysa River basin completely complies with these requirements and is extremely promising for the development of international geotourism in the Ukrainian Carpathians. The Carpathian region is a transboundary one, and the natural heritage of its protected areas is part of the Pan-European ecological network. The Chorna Tysa River is a tributary of the Tysa, which belongs to the middle Danube basin and, according to international agreements, must become a mutual environmental corridor for five European countries. However, local communities are not aware of the true natural value of their locality and do not support the projects on geotourism development yet. The planned ski resort construction is threatening the geographical heritage and causing complex ecological problems. The purpose of this article is to identify the most attractive geosites of the Chorna Tysa River basin (Upper part) with their special geodiversity as a basis for the development of geotourism and support for sustainable development of the Carpathian region.
