Abstract

Introduction Bioengineers at Princess Margaret Rose Orthopaedic Hospital, Edinburgh, in collaboration with physiotherapists, have developed a lightweight and modular straddle walker for use by children with cerebral palsy. Called the Arrow walker, it affords an upright posture, manoeuvrability and mechanical stability, and it can be easily disassembled for stowage. The ergonomics of the Arrow walker and preliminary observation on its efficacy in providing independent mobility for these children are reported.
