Abstract

This paper is a brief review of how symbolic algebra is being used in various branches of physics. It is hoped that the breadth of application will be apparent from the text and the references quoted. As well as the traditional fields of celestial mechanics, quantum mechanics and general relativity, there are a number of new areas where we can expect growth. While reviews of this nature have tended to concentrate on the physical sciences, uses are now being found in many numerate sciences and engineering.
