Abstract

Based on the remote sensing image ETM (TM), SPOT2 and RADARSAT, a remote-sensing method and procedure for terrain characteristics of southern China is tried using analysis by synthesis method and processing of multi-source geo-information and geological survey. Strata, thickness and spatial distribution regularity of coal seams in Zhaotong of Yunnan are made clear, regional tectonics and coal formations are determined and, ultimately, 12 coal prospecting areas have been found and are verified well through the application of the method. The research provides geologic basis for coal accumulation and coal resources evaluation. It is proved to have an important realistic and economic significance.
