Abstract

Objective To explore characteristics of the new surgical method of-forward shift of latissmus dorsi flap for prosthesis implantation after radical mastectomy of breast cancer. Methods Comparison study was performed between 20 patients with the new method and 22 patients with simplicity prosthesis implantation after radical mastectomy of breast cancer in our hospital from June 2003 to August 2006. Results Healing of the incision of all cases in study groups was very good. Double breast shape was basically symmetrical and the effect was satisfactory. Skin flap putrescence in 6 cases of control group conduced prosthesis shift or outside and lack of handle. Satisfactory rate for breast shape was significantly different between two groups( P 〈 0. 01 ). Conclusion Forward shift of latissmus dorsi flap for prosthesis implantation after radical mastectomy of breast cancer can accomplish better healing of the incisions and better shapes of the artificial breasts.
