Abstract

The one-band tight-binding model is employed to calculate bilinear and bi-quadratic interlayer exchange parameters as well as the angular dependence of the coupling energy in ideal magnetic trilayers. We found that even for larger exchange splitting and spacer thickness, the biquadratic coupling can still be dominant with a proper sign. This point is different from the free-electron model.
