Abstract

This paper uses detailed simulation models to investigate inrush current characteristics of typical dc power supplies, following various supply system voltage disturbances. Current methods of inrush current protection are investigated, and it is shown that careful consideration must be given to fuse selection in order to providing protect the dc power supply and avoid erroneous tripping. The paper also proposes a simplified equivalent model, based on an uncontrolled rectifier, for the accurate prediction of inrush currents considered dc power supply configurations.
