he growth of specialty practice in the healthprofessions is directly linked to advancementsin medical science during the early 1900s.Although these advancements resulted in improveddelivery of care, there was not yet a system in place toassure the public, not to mention the medical profes-sion, that someone claiming to be a specialist wasindeed qualified.
