Abstract

This study aims to provide a sociological view of the protest movements known to Algeria. And how the city streets turned in to a space for protest movements. In the first element, we discussed the urban policies and planning tools adopted by political actors in controlling the urban growth of cities. The relation of these policies to the economic and social transformations that Algerian society has known, Where we divided the study into three main historical stages, We explained at each stage the impact of urban policies on the society of the city, in the second element we studied the protest movements experienced in the streets of the Algerian city, where took three basic forms: identity protest movements, religious protest movements, and demanded protest movements, and we dealt with the specificity of each protest movement, In the third and last element, we touched on the popular protest movement: February 22, 2019, and illustrated the symbolism of the streets and public squares, the nature of the social groups that participated in this movement, and slogans that Filed by protesters.
