Abstract

AbstractIn this paper are given details concerning the acquisition of an iron meteorite (siderite) found approximately 13 miles west‐southwest of Albuquerque, in Bernalillo County, New Mexico (equatorial coördinate number (ECN) = + 1068,350). The total mass recovered to date is a single specimen weighing 157.3 gm. Mineralogical, chemical, and radiochemical studies have been made, and, on the basis of these investigations, the meteorite is classified as a medium octahedrite (Om). The original belief that this meteorite might be a stray specimen of the Canyon Diablo, Arizona, fall is refuted by the mineralogical, chemical, and radiochemical findings, especially the last two.
