Abstract

The Advanced Satellite Aviation -weather Products (ASAP) research initiative is a new initiative intent on demonstrating and developing meteorological satellite - based weath er products intended to increase aviation safety. NASA will work with the University of Wisconsin —Madison and the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) to promote new satellite data processing techniques to better diagnose and forecast in -flight icing, clear -air turbulence, thunderstorms and volcanic ash. Proven, new weather diagnostics will be used within the FAA Aviation Weather Research Program (AWRP) Product Development Teams at NCAR.
