Abstract
Using the principle of adiabatic invariance the authors find approximate semiclassical energy levels for the hydrogen atom in a magnetic field. Very good agreement with other available results is found over a wide range of magnetic field strengths, from the weak- into the strong-field regime. Some simple tests to estimate the onset of irregular motion are proposed and found to be consistent with each other and with other predictions.
