Abstract

The acute 96-h LC50 for 15- to-17 day old fathead minnow ( Pimephales promelas ) exposed to hexahydro-1,3,5-trinitro-1,3,5-triazine (RDX) in aqueous solution was 12.7 mg/L at 25°C. A 28-day early life stage (ELS) test with the fathead minnow produced a lowest-observed-effect concentration (LOEC) and no-observed-effect concentration (NOEC) based on growth (both wet and dry weight) of 2.4 and 1.4 mg/L, respectively. A review of the literature shows that the chronic toxicity of RDX to fathead minnow is similar when evaluated in ELS, partial life cycle, and complete life cycle tests.
