Abstract
The catalytic activity of two ScY zeolites with different silica-to-alumina ratios was studied using n-octane and cumene cracking at 450 °C and 334 °C respectively. The activity and selectivity were found to be dependent on the silica-to-alumina ratio. Catalysts of higher silica-to-alumina ratio showed lower activity in n-octane cracking and higher activity in cumene cracking. The results for cumene cracking conform to a carbonium ion reaction mechanism whereas in n-octane cracking not only a carbonium ion mechanism but also a polymolecular mechanism may contribute to the catalytic conversion of the hydrocarbon.
