Abstract

If librarians consider civic literacy the skills involved with understanding civil society, then civic engagement is the participatory outcome; students move beyond information analysis to participate in and contribute to civic life within a democracy. The six articles reviewed for this column are a sample of the current research on civic literacy and engagement within academic libraries and higher education. Each article has a unique voice, and when read together, the essays and studies weave current practices with new strategies in order to more deeply embed civic literacy and engagement into academic library culture.
