Abstract

An absorption ring modulator based on few-layer graphene is proposed with large modulation efficiency and extinction ratio. Compared with mono-layer graphene, a few-layer graphene structure can enhance the light-matter interaction which can result in a larger extinction ratio. In the proposed absorption ring modulator with four-layer graphene, the resonance wavelength has a shift of over 10 nm compared with mono-layer graphene structure. Besides, a large extinction ratio of 15 dB and the bandwidth of over 100 GHz can be also obtained in this proposed modulator.
