Abstract

The energy spectrum of the doubly odd nucleus 140La is described in terms of the unified model in intermediate coupling. The phonon energy of the 138Ba core, the coupling strengths between phonon excitations and the proton and neutron single-particle motion, the single-particle energies and the four strengths describing the exchange mixtures of the residual interaction of the odd proton and neutron are considered as free parameters and are determined in a least-squares fitting procedure. The wave functions thus obtained, are used to determine M1 transition rates and (d, p) spectroscopic factors.
