Abstract

Gamma-ray spectra, branching ratios and γ-ray yields have been measured for the resonances in the 27Al(p, γ) 28Si reaction at 1315, 1362 and 1363 keV. Angular correlation measurements have been used to find the spin of the 1315 keV resonant level and of a state at 6.88 MeV in 28Si. Our results are compared with the results of α-particle yield and angular distribution measurements from the same resonant level, and the sain assignments obtained from both types of measurements are in excellent agreement. Thus the 1315 keV resonant level (excitation energy 12.86 MeV) has spin and parity 4 + and the 1363 keV resonance (excitation energy 12.90 MeV) has spin and parity 2 +. The 1362 keV resonant level (excitation energy 12.90 MeV) is tentatively assigned the spin and parity 4 +, due to the detailed similarity between the γ-ray spectra from this level and the one at 1315 keV. One of the two states at 6.88 MeV in 28Si is found to decay almost exclusively (≈ 90%) by transitions to the first excited state. This 6.88 MeV state has spin 4.
