Abstract
Thanksgiving plays an important role in the Epistle of Paul to the Colossians. The thanksgiving was offered to the Father, and the grounds were that He has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in light. In chap. 1:3 Paul had been giving thanks to God. At v. 12, in answer to his intercessions, the Colossians were to offer thanksgiving to the Father because of His actions on their behalf. The language and style of the Colossian thanksgiving period have occasioned different, indeed, contradictory, comments from New Testament exegetes. All scholars are agreed that the Colossian thanksgiving extends from vv. 3-8 at least. Paul's prayer of thanksgiving was directed to 'God the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ', v. 3.
