Textile in civil construction: from tents to tensioned architectonic membranes

Abstract

Textile architecture has accompanied humanity since the first man-made shelters. With rustic structures that are easy to assemble and manufacture, it was a very important resource at different times in history. This work sought to briefly list the path of textile architecture over the years, showing the similarities and basic differences between the materials. Finally, it characterizes the quality of the currently used materials, and show some works and the scenario of this type of architecture in Brazil.
