Abstract
A fifteen-minute test sequence has been developed for screening and ranking base oils and friction modifiers. The tests are run on a high-frequency friction machine developed at the authors' company and based on the Mills-Cameron design. The procedure can distinguish clearly and repeatably between the behaviour of different friction modifiers and with a degree of discrimination which is better than has been achieved in engine mechanical loss tests
