Abstract

Abstract A border row of a flowering sunflower field was divided into single row 20 ft plots at the Rosemount Agricultural Experiment Station, Rosemount, MN. Ten plants in full flower in each plot were marked and the treatments were arranged in a randomized complete block design with 3 replications. Plots were sprayed in early morning of Aug 8 using a hand-operated compressed air sprayer delivering 50 gal water/acre. Spray applications were directed at the flowering heads. After honeybees were first noticed foraging, surveys of the plots were made at 4 periods in both the morning and afternoon. Numbers of honeybees actively foraging in marked sunflower heads were recorded.
