Abstract

The first Fresnel zone of direct path interacts differently with various terrain profiles, resulting in different partial obstruction losses. This letter presents a new model for partial obstruction of descending terrain extracted from a large number of terrain profiles representing various terrain characteristics and base-station antenna heights. The model is simple enough to be effectively used in system-level simulations and RF predictions without excessive analysis of the underlying terrain data.
