Abstract

The study “follows the author” in building a synthesis of the reading concepts revealed historically in an essayistic stylistic key by Alberto Manguel (b. 1948, Argentina). More or less sufficiently examined by modern literary theory, Manguel (Istoria lecturii –The history of lecture, Bucharest: Orion (Nemira), 2022) gives the concepts of reading not only a narrative-diachronic vision, but also a philosophical-artistic depth, his vision shining a light on the thicket of terms in which the essence of reading is often hidden in theory literary studies. Since literary theory investigates the visible - the text and the message, from which it assembles an abstract, virtual reader, and Manguel discovers the very nature of reading, the primordial importance of reading-writing for the becoming of man in his own cultural-spiritual being. . After nature, reading is the second existence of the human being, respectively, an essential necessity for his education as a being that coexists in nature and in culture. Reading makes man a transcendental being. Reading makes the man a transcendental being. Reading is the creator of the man and all his activities that continually build him culturally. Or, precisely in this context, reading is also examined by the theory of literary-artistic education, which Manguel’s diachronicphilosophical vision ennobles on the epistemic side.
