Bandoma placiau pažvelgti į teritoriją (planavimo veiklos objektą) kaip visumą, kurios raida ir būklė priklauso nuo savaiminių procesų eigos ir pasekmių, į visuomenės galimybes daryti įtaką s˘iems procesams ir teritorijos raidai, taip pat ir jos būklei. Analizuojama teritorijos sandara, savaiminių gamtinių ir socialinių procesų projekcijos. Teoriniai teiginiai iliustruojami tyrimų rezultatais.
