Abstract

Firstly, this essay analyses some authors and literary writings mentioned by Paul Tillich in order to check what he interpreted on them. In this sense, Tillich is the starting point and not the ending. Secondly, three concepts of Tillich’s writing are outlined to show some possibilities of reading and interpretation of his literary works can be done, as follow: prophetism (or prophetic Protestant principle), specially concerning the poetics of Guerra Junqueira, a Portuguese poet; search of meaning through comparision between John Bunyan and Paulo Coelho; and, finally, it tries to detect some signs of the concept of ambiguity in the experience of faith such as proposed in literary works of Miguel de Unamuno.
