Abstract

Appearances, although deceptive, are a major focus of young people’s attention, especially during puberty. Body image is nowadays an ideal and is over-valued. As part of an effort to raise awareness of beauty standards and their impact on self-esteem, 13-14 years old students studied the dress codes of a contemporary era rooted in the fast-paced urbanism of the early industrial era. During a history lesson of 3 x 45’, the pupils pose to recreate a painting from the beginning of the industrial age. In history, the study of sources, chronology and representations of time are the focus of learning. Permanences and changes are studied through society and the economy. The students question social norms and their influence on their own personal development.
