Abstract

The Moscow ACM SIGMOD Chapter is celebrating its tenth anniversary. ACM SIGMOD founded the Moscow Chapter on September 24, 1992 as a scientific society that was to become the core of the local community of experts working in the area of databases and information systems. The Chapter administration aims at preserving traditions developed within the Russian community of database experts around the Database Task Group reported to the State Committee for Science and Technology that operated in 1974–1987. According to the ACM bylaw, the Chapter is a scientific and educational non-profit organization, which, in particular, provides a basis for professional contacts among experts. The body of the Chapter currently includes around seventy people. Alongside with the Russian ACM and ACM SIGMOD members, representatives of research institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences and other departments, professors, postgraduate and graduate students, staff members of various state and commercial organizations in Moscow, St. Petersburg, and other cities are included into the body.
