Abstract

Studies on some properties such as mechanical, degradation temperatures, and features of the ligno-cellulose fabrics were carried out in both untreated and alkali-treated form. The alkali-treated fabrics are found to have higher initial and final degradation temperatures and tensile modulii. The removal of the amorphous hemi-cellulose on alkali treatment may be the reason for the improved properties. The fabric of Hildegardia was coated with polystyrene and its effect on tensile properties was also studied. The tensile properties were found to improve on alkali treatment, polymer coating and the coupling agent.
