Abstract

Since the early 2000s, the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) started promoting the Semantic Web initiative. The Semantic Web initiative has helped the development of semantic-based data models and languages for manipulating data and knowledge by the machines. As with research efforts devoted to temporal databases in the 1980s, the usefulness of time varying data makes it necessary for Semantic Web-based data models to incorporate time, and further reason about it. In this paper, we provide a brief survey of temporal aspects of major Semantic Web data models and query languages, focusing on temporal RDF and temporal OWL.
