Abstract

Our ancient Tamil people’s temple administration system is one of the most efficient administrative system in India. The Tamil kings constructed a systematic arrangement in the temple administration. The temple official was called as “sri Kariyam” and the account book were called as “Sri Pandara Pusthagam”. There were number of workers employed in the temples. In the temples holy hymns of Siva and Vishnu were sung. The holy singers were called as “uvachers”. The temples were served as hospitals and schools at that time. The temples had libraries and it was called as Saareswathi Pandurams. In the temples poem were composed, dances were enact and plays were enacted. So the temple took a prominent part in the lives of ancient Tamil peoples. Our Tamil peoples temple administration system is the exact example for the efficient administrative systems of Tamils.
