Abstract
In virtue of a methylated organic amine (N-methylhexamethylenetetramine, Me-Hmta) as the template, two halometallates [(Me-Hmta)4][Cd2I8] (1) and [(Me-Hmta)6][Pb5Cl16] (2) have been successfully constructed. Both 1 and 2 display anionic skeletons and charge balance of the whole structures are realized by the cationic Me-Hmta guests. Compound 1 exhibits an isolated [Cd2I8]4− moiety while 2 features an infinite [Pb5Cl16]6− chain. The syntheses, crystal structures and photoluminescent properties of the halometallates have been investigated. Moreover, temperature-dependent luminescent experiments are performed on solids 1 and 2, indicating that the two compounds can be regarded as prospective luminescence molecular thermometers in terms of temperature sensing and indicator.
