Abstract

New experimental data on reactions yielding forsterite and calcite from dolomite and diopside or tremolite permit estimation of conditions of metamorphism of natural assemblages containing the coexisting minerals diopside, calcian dolomite, forsterite and magnesian calcite. If temperature is determined on the basis of the calcite—dolomite solvus, then Ptotal and XCO2 can be estimated for the natural assemblage.
