Abstract

Measurements of dynamic Young's modulus and dynamic shear modulus were made on the uranium-2.4 wt% niobium alloy as a function of temperature in the range 25 to 800 °C. The method used to make the measurements was the piezoelectric ultrasonic composite oscillator technique (PUCOT) at frequencies of 40 or 80 kHz. The material was investigated in two different conditions of heat treatment: gamma solution heat treated (GSHT) and water quenched (WQ), and GSHT + WQ + aged.
