Abstract

In this contribution a discussion is presented of two types, A and B, of temperature dependent phonon modes in the ferroelectric crystals triglycine sulfate and triglycine selenate, reported in an earlier paper.1 Type A shows a strong frequency shift below Tc while the frequency remains constant in the paraelectric phase. The linewidth γ of one of these transitionscould be followed through the whole temperature regions and shows a maximum at Tc. Type B is represented by the internal SO4-/SeO4-modes only. These modes show a steplike shift near Tc of up to 12 cm-1. The normalized frequency shifts behave like the temperature dependence of the (k = 0)-Fourier transform of a two spin correlation function (σμzσμz).
