Abstract

Thermoelectric power studies of lithium substituted copper ferrites, having the chemical formula (Li 0.5Fe 0.5) 1− x Cu x Fe 2O 4, where x=0.2, 0.4, 0.5, 0.6 and 0.8, have been investigated as a function of temperature and composition by the differential method. On the basis of the sign of the Seebeck coefficient ( S), the ferrites under investigation have been classified as n-type semiconductors. Plots of S versus T are shown with a transition near Curie temperature. Based of these results, an explanation for the conduction mechanism in Li–Cu ferrites is suggested.
