Abstract
The ultradispersed diamonds synthesized by the detonation of TNT-RDX explosives were investigated by transmission electron microscopy, high resolution transmission electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction. The results show that the detonation products (soot) contain four kinds of nanometer size particles: (1) ultradispersed diamond microspheres of 3–10 nm; (2) amorphous carbon microspheres of 3–10 nm; (3) diamond grains of 10–20 nm; (4) curved graphite ribbons 20 nm in length and 4 nm in thickness. The mechanism of the formation of ultradispersed diamonds is discussed.
